GEAR
Magazine and Digital:Convergence Offer World's First Completely
Wired Consumer Magazine
"Search for the Perfect Woman" promotion kicks off Internet-enhanced
magazine
NEW
YORK, March 8, 2001 - GEAR Magazine has announced its partnership
with Digital:Convergence Corporation to offer its readers the
first completely Internet-enhanced consumer magazine.
In
the April 2001 Music and Fashion Issue, every editorial page of
GEAR will be Internet-enhanced with a "cue." Using :CRQ software
and a :CueCat reader, a handheld code device about the size of
a PC mouse, GEAR readers will be able to instantly connect to
Web sites related to editorial pages and advertisers' products,
all with one simple swipe.
"We're
very excited about expanding the GEAR universe with :CueCat, and
the virtually limitless promotions we'll do," says Bob Guccione,
Jr., GEAR Editor and Publisher. "Now a magazine can be truly interactive
with its readers."
"GEAR
readers are cutting-edge and technically savvy, making them the
ideal users of our technology," said Don Welsh, president of Digital:Convergence's
Publishing Group. "This totally wired music and fashion issue
will allow GEAR's readers to listen to music reviewed in the magazine,
see fashion pages come to life on video, and locate and purchase
items instantly with this technology."
One
component of this special issue is the final part of GEAR's "Search
for the Perfect Woman," a poll to determine what readers, male
and female, think comprises the perfect woman. Conducted via the
Internet using the :CueCat device, the survey will involve a national
radio contest and promotions with Arista Records. The April GEAR
hits newsstands March 13. :CRQ software and :CueCat devices are
available free at RadioShack and CIMS stores across the United
States. Readers can also order software and :CueCat devices through
GEAR's Web site, www.gearmagazine.com,
which will be operative in early March.
